Why Fraser Robertson started a FiltaFry Plus business in 2011

My name is Fraser Robertson and I have been a Filtafry Plus franchisee since 2011.

Previous to this I have a very wide and varied career pathway ranging from a sheet metal worker, to a forester/gardener, then serving with the British Army during the first Gulf War. I then retrained as a Mental Health Nurse achieving the position of a Care Home manager after fourteen years working both in the N.H.S and the private sector. Although these jobs were all rewarding in their own way I always felt I would like to work for myself.

My first contact with the Filta Group was at the Middlesbrough Franchise Seminar in March 2011.

Damian Slater explained the Filta Group ethos and gave me the costs and financial benefits of becoming a franchisee. I came away with the feeling that the Filta Group was as they said a family of franchisees rather than a lone franchisee striving on their own to establish a business. Over the following months I did look at other franchise opportunities but never felt the professionalism matched that of the Filta Group. The filtration of cooking oil and cleaning of deep fat fryers with all the cost benefits to the customer did appear to be a recession proof business opportunity. I was assisted through the initial process of obtaining the required funding to purchase the “G” post code by Damian; he was always at the end of the phone when problems occurred. I never felt pressured to complete the process quickly or withdraw from the process when banks declined to approve my required business loan. The support I received from Damian during this period of uncertainty confirmed that I had made the right choice. I purchased the Glasgow post code area in August 2011.

I attended the training session at the Filta Group Head Quarters and meet the team of staff and other franchisees.

All of which were of great value to me in the first few months of trading. Support was continuous and advice on how to develop my business was on going. After 5 years of being a FiltaFry franchisee I feel I made the right decision, not only in job satisfaction but as I have move from as desk job as a Care Home manager to a much more physical job as a FiltaFry franchisee my health has also benefited. As with all business being a franchisee has its ups and downs but the rewards are extensive, I work for myself, I have everything I need to be successful at my fingertips. I am supported by the World leader in the cooking oil filtration business. I have customers who are always pleased to see me come and do the job the majority of the staff do not like doing. I choose my own working hours and within the Filta Group there are other services to add on to my business if I choose.

I would have no hesitation in recommending a FiltaFry franchise to anyone who would like to work for themselves and has the drive and determination to succeed.
