Progressive Sports franchisee Adam Holland explains his reason for joining
Q 1) How have you found running your own Progressive Sport business?
Running my own business has been an incredible adventure so far, full of excitement, determination, bumps in the road, but everything is worth it. You are your own boss, in control of your own future and lifestyle. It’s humbling to see how far the business has developed since 2015, how we started as a small business and growing into a successful franchise.
Q 2 ) What are your ambitions for the franchise?
To keep pushing! I have no limits on how far I’d like the business to go. I’d love to hit through the £500,000 turnover, and we aren’t a million miles away. From a delivery standpoint, we want to inspire and engage as many children as we can locally, and be the first port of call for parents and schools.
Q 3) What is your current turnover?
We are on track for £425,000 this financial year.
Q 4) What hurdles have you had to overcome since starting?
Quite a few! The main hurdles come around recruitment, and those very first sales meetings. Being strict to say if a deal isn’t right for the business, operationally or financially, and there was plenty of work we should have turned down! We have had real recruitment headaches, around employing the wrong person. We know recruit on attitude and desire, rather than how many qualifications an individual has.
Q 5) What advice would you give to somebody looking at a franchise?
Listen and implement! Whether that is listening to head office support, or other franchisees in the network – they have been there and done that, and know how to grow the business. Surrounding yourself with like minded people will aid your growth too.
Q 6) What has the support been like from the head office?
It’s a weight of your shoulders, especially when starting out, that you have someone to guide you through the difficult times, as being a business owner can be a lonely place. Regular meetings with head office keep you on track to smash your targets, so I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received since day one.
