Manchester based father and son embark on their own business journey
A father and son team of oven valeters is hoping to clean up in Manchester, after starting out in business.
Joe Moran and his two sons, Mike and Steven, have launched Ovenu Manchester Central, which provides an environmentally-friendly oven valeting service to homes and businesses in the city.
Joe, 62, has worked as an IT technician for the past 19 years, while Mike and Steven, who are 23 and 25, respectively, have worked in management roles in retail. Joe will continue in his current role, but will be responsible for the administrative aspect of the business, while Mike and Steven will carry out the day-to-day duties.
Joe said: “I’ve been looking ahead to my future and with retirement likely in the next couple of years; I thought it would be nice to get involved in an enterprise with my two boys. I’ve enjoyed a long and successful career, so I think now is the right time to take the plunge into business with Mike and Steven, who will one day take sole ownership.
“When I had my oven cleaned that was what first sparked my initial interest in oven cleaning, and after researching the market, Ovenu fit the bill. Mike and Steven both possess excellent interpersonal skills from dealing with customers in their previous roles, which will be beneficial as we look to establish our presence and build a growing order book full of customers.”
He added: “We are looking forward to this next chapter in all our lives and can’t wait to start out in our family venture, as well as meet all our new customers.”
Ovenu is a franchise network made up of more than 100 businesses owned by men and women working throughout the UK.
Rik Hellewell, managing director and founder of Ovenu, said: “Joe, Mike and Steven are all fully-equipped to create a thriving small business given their vast customer facing experience and determination to succeed. I would like to wish them all the very best.”
The Ovenu valeting process involves dismantling key components of an oven such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves and placing them into design-registered tank equipment, which uses safe, non-caustic products to clean the oven parts. The whole process takes around three to four hours and leaves the oven, hob and exterior in immaculate condition.
