Clear Brew Birmingham franchisees on the last 5 years with Clear Brew
It seems like just yesterday that Birmingham-based brothers, Andrew and Simon, eagerly made their way to our central office in Cornwall to complete their training and embark on a new adventure. Five years on, we have caught up with them for a quick Q&A to see where their journey has taken them.
What did you do previously, before becoming a business owner with Clear Brew Ltd?
(Simon) was a Health and Safety Manager for a large automotive manufacturing company and Andrew was involved in the logistics and operations side of things for a window shutter supply and installation company.
What made you consider investing in a franchise with Clear Brew?
It was a combination of believing there is a good level of demand for the service and wanting a good level of autonomy in running our own area without having to start from scratch. (Plus, we like pubs).
What has been your best business achievement in the past year?
We are proud to have been able to maintain and support our new and existing customer base through difficult times.
What do you like about the Clear Brew business model?
We like the scalability, being able to service small local independents, to large venues and large group businesses. Moving forward, it would be great for the number of national accounts we service to be increased even more.
What difference are you making to businesses that you service in your local community?
We offer stability, peace of mind and save our customers time, making their life balance palatable in a tough industry. We also support local charity initiatives.
Please tell me about the support you have within the Clear Brew franchise network.
We liaise with a number of the local guys (especially where we share customers who have sites in more than one area) but not regularly as we prefer to operate without too much external influence. Other than that, we have reasonable relations with the other franchise operators and try to support those who ask questions on the WhatsApp group.
What have you learned most about in the past 12 months?
We have learned about operating a business effectively and how to keep everything running smoothly.
What business goals do you want to achieve in the next 12 months?
It’s simple for us. We want to keep growing.
What are your interests/hobbies?
We both love football. Andrew also likes horse racing and I have an interest in motorbikes.
How has having a franchise with Clear Brew helped you with your work/life balance?
Being able to schedule our workload to ensure we have cover, if one or more of us is absent, allows flexibility for holidays and family time. Also, any overtime at a weekend (which we avoid like the plague) is either for new business (free clean) or an emergency only.
