Milestone 30 Year Anniversary for Pitman Training Business Husband and Wife Duo
Tom and Fran Maclean, business partners and husband and wife, are celebrating their achievement of running their own Pitman Training franchise businesses for a landmark 30 years.
Opening their flagship Pitman Training franchise Centre in 1987, their business based in the franchise territory of Castle Street, Edinburgh, was conducted using manual typewriters, with a move in 1988 to their High Street premises saw the first Pitman Training franchise centre outside of the London franchise territory area embrace the electronic age, with the use of electronic typewriters, followed by their most recent move to their current franchise premises in York Place.
Supporting individuals within their designated franchise territory of Scotland embarking on vocational training to help them get a job, or for those wanting to progress their career, Tom and Fran’s team has evolved from teaching the historically renowned Pitman shorthand and secretarial courses, to offering learning programmes geared towards a wide variety of modern office based roles seen in any modern workplace. The couple’s unique approach to their own business has also been progressive, having readily embraced new technology that provides e-testing, online learning and digital marketing.
Pitman Training in Scotland not only assists private individuals to achieve their career goals but has also forged good relationships with hundreds of businesses, of all sizes, to provide their staff training, benefitted by the recent accreditation of the majority of their courses by the Continual Professional Development (CPD) Standards Office.
The excellent team work between Tom and Fran has helped them consistently accomplish a turnover in excess of £1 million per year from their two Pitman Training franchise Centres based in the franchise territories of Glasgow and Edinburgh and provide support to the other Scotland based franchised training centres. Providing employment for 17 staff and having built the business from the ground up, the dedicated pair are an inspiration to others in the franchise network, and is business as a whole.
As part of their celebrations Fran and Tom are seeking out other local business individuals to highlight those who have overcome their disadvantages to achieve their goals, with the 2017 Pitman Training SuperAchievers awards. The categories feature Working Dad of the Year (a new category), Working Mum of the Year, PA of the Year, Entrepreneur of the Year, Boss of the Year, Inspirational Achiever of the Year and Pitman Training Student of the Year.
