Go Fly Your Kite celebrates World Space Week
World Space Week took place between 4th and 10th of October this year. It’s an amazing culmination of space related events held by space agencies, aerospace companies, schools, planetariums, museums and astronomy clubs. It brings together people from across the globe in a celebration of science and technology and its positive impact on our way of life.
It’s a great week for Go Fly Your Kite as we carry out lots of workshops teaching children all about the science and technology behind flight, about gravity and aerodynamics. The children who attend one of our workshops, trace space themed images onto their kites, colour them in and then build and fly their kites at the end of the session.
This year we held 13 workshops over 5 days and saw 400 children design and fly 400 kites!
That’s a lot of kites!
Our workshops are a really nice balance of education, physical activity and creativity. The children respond so well during the sessions. They’re able to practically apply the knowledge they’ve gained and see it come to life in as they fly their kites as well as enjoying their colourful creations. It’s an incredibly rewarding thing to witness and be a part of.
“The session was a perfect mix of listening and activity. The children really enjoyed hearing about NASA and watching clips of the moon landing. They then got to design and decorate their own individual kites, the excitement amongst the group was immense. Thank you for a fun and educational learning experience.”
It was a hugely successful week for Go Fly Your Kite – we absolutely love Space Week. We’ve waved off lots of happy faces flying their kites and heading off in to the world with a little more knowledge.
